The Two Ravens animated film

The project originated from conversations between musician Christine Martin and film animator John McGeoch based on a single painting by John Slavin , 'Marigold's Metamorphosis' and then grew ( and grew!) from there, utilising John Slaven’s existing paintings plus some new ones painted specially. He was already painting folk tales from his work with Linda Williamson, Duncan Williamson's ex wife. Marigold's Metamorphosis was one of this series and illustrated scenes from the Twa Ravens story.

Christine Martin Musician.

"Information about Christine Martin Christine was interested in doing the music and audio and brought in Jack Evans who plays in Harta with her and used to be in the Cauld Blast Orchestra with Anne Wood. So they did rearrangements of traditional tunes plus some original with extra bits from friends and family!

John McGeoch Anmimator

John is Artistic Director of Arts in Motion, a multi-arts company based in the Highlands of Scotland, as well as a video artist in his own right. Current work spans from video sets for theatre, stand-alone installations, promotional video, animated films and workshops, VJ and live projections at events and mapped building projections. Recent works include video sets for St. Kilda Opera (Gaelic Arts), Marat Sade (Theatre Workshop), The Sundowe (Cameron Mackintosh / Eden Court) and Callum`s Road (Communicado/ National Theatre of Scotland). John was interested in doing it because of a chance to work with Christine and to get in about John's Slaven’s paintings. He said it also meant having to adapt the story which was much harder than it appeared as it was an oral story and not up to the logistical rigour of film, ( it's repeatability) and the greater discernment of the modern mind!

John Slavin painter.

John Slavin attended Edinburgh College of Art 1975-1980 under the tutelage of Denis Peploe Dame Elizabeth Blackadder and Sir Robin Philipson. Exhibitions as a landscape painter began in 1995 while John was living on a croft in the Isle of Skye. From there he started making pilgrimages every year to the south of France for studies of the Pyrenees Orinetales; paintings were exhibited in the RSA, Durham University; the Sutton and Doubtfire galleries, Resipole Studios and the Scottish Storytelling Centre. In recent years figurative painting of myth and wonder tale has taken John’s interest with Edinburgh the most favourable place for this work.
